BOOKING YOUR WEDDING IMPORTANT INFORMATION Eligibility and Costs PLEASE READ CAREFULLY - thank you

Thanks for reading this. It contains all the most important information necessary in order to book your wedding All Saints. Please can you read all of this information below as it is all important if you are considering having your wedding at All Saints. Thank you. Below is information about how to book, the ID you will need with you when you book, and also the need to have a connection with All Saints or with Whitstable before you book, though there is a way to marry as explained below if you do not.

Please note - booking weddings at churches has become increasingly complicated recently due to government regulation as well as new rules created by the Church of England (both of these are entirely out of our control!).

It is probably a good idea for you to call Simon our vicar on 01227 272308 or email him at tillotsons@gmail.com
after you have read the below information just to confirm you have all the relevant details in place before coming to book your wedding at All Saints.

Or you can contact the vicar through Whatsapp

by clicking HERE

He is sometimes on holiday, but never for more than two weeks at a time. Please though read the below information but do call him just to check things before you come to book the wedding. Leave a message on his answerphone if you are out. Thank you!

Also, if you do not have the relevant links with Whitstable (see below) but have your heart set on a wedding here, you can agree to attend church once a month for a period of six months and book your wedding on that understanding. Talk to Simon about this. If you fail to complete the six months attendance, you will still be eligible to a church blessing after doing the legal bits at a registry office in the morning. This can be a perfectly good option.

If you live in Whitstable, or have links with Whitstable in the way described below, there is no need for you to attend church before your wedding, though we do like you to come and hear your banns read the month before your wedding, and Simon will explain this more.

Please read more below

HOW ARE WEDDINGS BOOKED?

Weddings are not booked by email or telephone but in person. You do not both need to attend, (although we prefer it if you both can come along) but if at least one of you can come to the church on a Saturday morning between 10am and 11.30am that would be most appreciated. Or if you live out of the country a relative can come on your behalf providing the ID is completed at a later stage.

You can give Simon an email now to find out if the date you want is free but he is unable to reserve it for you as we have found some people have asked for a date but then not come along to make the booking. However, if you can come along asap you are likely to get that date.

 If you are unable to be present on a Saturday morning then email the vicar at tillotsons@gmail.com and he will discuss with you some other alternatives.

ID

Please note, please bring photocopies and originals of your passport with you as proof of identity as this is a legal requirement. Also please bring a deposit of £50 cash or cheque for £50 payable to All Saints Whitstable DCC.

WHY ID? Bringing a photocopy of both your passports and the original passport is required by the legal authorities (see below if you do not have a passport)  - we are sorry about that but its the government rules now for marriages in England and Wales for this to be the case.

If one of you are not  a UK national it is best to do your booking direct with the Vicar. Please email him at tillotsons@gmail.com. This is because there are various rules relating to different countries in the world. The European Union and those in the European Union Economic area is normally straightforward, but for countries outside this area there is a new system requiring you to approach the civil authorities as well as the church authorities. Simon will explain this to you when you meet him so please email him at tillotsons@gmail.com

PLEASE NOTE - The Government does not consider driving licenses are sufficient proof of UK nationality for booking weddings so please bring either a passport or if you do not have a passport bring your Birth certificate plus one of the below (plus photocopies please for us to keep).

Evidence of current use of name
2.9 (a) utility bill dated no more than three months before the date on which
notice of marriage is given;
(b) bank or building society statement or passbook dated no more than
one month before the date on which notice of marriage is given
(c) council tax bill dated no more than 12 months before the date on which
notice of marriage is given;
(d) mortgage statement dated no more than 12 months before the date on
which notice of marriage is given;
(e) current residential tenancy agreement;
(f) valid driving licence in the name of the person giving notice of marriage.

If you do not have a birth certificate please contact the Vicar on 01227 272308 or tillotsons@gmail.com as there are other ways forward.

Please also note that we are able to booking weddings for every day of the week except for Sundays. Sundays are not possible as our organist, choir and bellringers and verger spend the afternoon with their families having attended church in the mornings. They would not have much family time if they were busy with weddings on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays so Sunday is a day off for them.

When you arrive at the church on Saturday, the entrance is through the door round to the far right of the church.

WHO CAN MARRY AT ALL SAINTS WHITSTABLE?

It is important to check that you are legally able to marry at All Saints Whitstable as not everyone is permitted to marry here. This is due to national church rules.

Please can you read this next bit carefully!
This is a check list that you can use to confirm if you are able to be married at All Saints. It would be worthwhile running through these questions before you come along to book your wedding.

If none of these below apply to you the only way the couple can get married at the church is if they attend an Anglican church in Whtistable regularly for six months. Some couples do choose this route. Attendance once a month for six months would be seen as sufficient and some couples come all the way from London to do this. Please talk to the Vicar if you are interested in exploring this option before coming to book by emailing him at tillotsons@gmail.com or calling him on 01227 272308.

SO - in order to book here are some questions we need to ask you please!

1. Would you mind confirming if either of you has been married before?

IF THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION IS YES PLEASE CALL THE VICAR ON 01227 272308 BEFORE COMING TO BOOK YOUR WEDDING OR EMAIL HIM at tillotsons@gmail.com. He will explain why this is when you speak to him.

IF THE ANSWER IS NO TO QUESTION 1 PLEASE PROCEED TO QUESTION 2.

2. Would you confirm that are both British by nationality and are eligible to a UK passport ?

IF THE ANSWER IS YES TO THIS QUESTION THEN PLEASE PROCEED TO QUESTION 3.
IF THE ANSWER IS NO PLEASE CALL THE VICAR ON 01227 272308 BEFORE COMING IN TO BOOK YOUR WEDDING. We are allowed to marry those from an EU or EEA country through the banns route and Simon will explain this to you. If you have a nationality from outside the EU or EEA area then Simon will explain the process you need to go down to book your wedding. In either case it is best Simon sees you before you proceed with the booking.
His email is tillotsons@gmail.com

IF YOU HAVE ANSWERED "NO" TO QUESTION 1 AND YES TO QUESTION 2 you should now arrive at question 3!

3. Does one or both you have an address in Whitstable (the area including Seasalter, Whitstable and Swalecliffe and some outlying areas, check with Vicar if you live in an outlying area please)?

IF THE ANSWER IS YES TO THIS QUESTION YOU CAN COME IN TO THE CHURCH TO MAKE YOUR BOOKING, PROVIDING YOU FULFILL THE CRITERIA OF QUESTIONS 1 and 2 and 3 together

IF THE ANSWER IS NO PLEASE GO TO QUESTION 4

4. Has one of you ever lived in the parish of Whitstable for more than six months?

IF THE ANSWER IS YES TO THIS QUESTION YOU CAN COME IN TO THE CHURCH TO MAKE YOUR BOOKING, PROVIDING YOU FULFILL THE CRITERIA OF QUESTIONS 1 and 2

IF THE ANSWER IS NO PLEASE GO TO QUESTION 5

5. Has one of your parents ever lived in the parish of Whitstable for more than six months during your lifetime?

IF THE ANSWER IS YES TO THIS QUESTION YOU CAN COME IN TO THE CHURCH TO MAKE YOUR BOOKING, PROVIDING YOU FULFILL THE CRITERIA OF QUESTIONS 1 and 2

IF THE ANSWER IS NO PLEASE GO TO QUESTION 6

6. If questions 3, 4 and 5 do not apply to you there are still ways in which you can be married in Whitstable.
These are
a) One of you was baptised or prepared for confirmation in the parish;
b) One of you has at any time regularly (at least once a month) attended public worship in the parish for six months or more;(remember you can agree to do this as part of booking your wedding)
c) One of your parents has regularly attended public worship there for six months or more in their child’s lifetime;
d) One of your parents or grandparents were married in the parish. (All of these refer to Church of England services)

If none of these apply there is still the option of

a) Attending church for six months and therefore qualifying to marry at the church - you would only need to attend once a month and several couples each year do this

b) Having a registry office wedding ceremony before the wedding blessing. You do not need to have any qualifying connections to go down this route.

It is important to speak to Simon about this if you wish to go down  either of these routes. Email him at tillotsons@gmail.com
